Hello,Thinking about putting my 96 800 up for sale but would like to know from other members what would be a good price be on it.It has the 3 inch lowering tubes less than 4000 miles on sled.Seat seam came apart in the middle as usual. It is the sled in my avatar if you would like to know.

I picked up a mint '96 800 Mountain Max from (OCC) last spring and paid $2000. I'd say with the market to expect $1600 - $2000 "tops" for your '96 pending on over all condition. Also bought a extremely clean '95 Vmax-4, 2- years ago, very low miles for $1500. So I guess take that for what it's worth on your pricing.

l belive Quads on the money. l paid $1900 cdn for a bone stock 1996 vmax4 136" about 6 mths ago (my avitar)with 2200kms i needed to throw $200 and some time to get it minty. To a max lover maybe $2200- cdn at the beginning of the season (less if its a short track, purely because they made more)...............and its a big maybe.Molested sled less, unless its a proper racer.

I used to buy and sell quite a few sleds but haven't been doing it for a few years. I sold a couple of low milage VX800s probably 4 years ago for $3000 - that seemed to be top dollar then. There was a certain, albeit small, buyer segment from all over the country that had an interest in these. Most of the inquiries were guys looking to build a drag sled. With the price of fuel jumping a couple years ago, you couldn't give these away to the trail/recreation rider market - plus they know the ride quality sucks. All I can suggest is put it on the free ad sites with your asking price with OBO and see what happens.

The only thing that bugs the crap out of me with these low prices is that @ 10 yrs from now everyone would kill for a V-Max4...I seen it happen with some old SRX's I had...Like this ain't worth this or so on and so forth...But in 10 yrs there will be a diffrent story..

It's all a demand thing and unfortunatelly the economy puts a real damper on this market. I've seen some truly beautiful '97 Vmax-4's and even a mint '97 800 Mountain Max sell for $2500 - $2800 over the last year, where they were bringing in around $5000 a few years ago for a clean '97.
I will admit that I'm building my stash to have a few as collectors and others that are in need of major TLC to completely rebuild now as our Turbocharged Outlaw sleds to sell.
There will always be a following with these Vmax-4's with a desired group as they are one of the rarest modern time muscle sleds in existance, especially when you figure in the center PTO driven 2-stroke, 4-cylinder engine. Could they be the next late 70's SRX in 10-years? Very possible. The Japanese engineers knew what they were doing on this engine.
Engine wise its hard for me to believe that this 4-cylinder is a 14-19 year "dated" technology...I think the engine is still 10-years ahead of its time. Maybe not the chassis for trail riding, but it is the "perfect" full-bodied chassis for drags and speed runs, Personally, I have considered switching our race program to the 4-strokes a few years ago, but I keep learning so much each season with this engine that it often leaves me shaking my head in amazement. Over the past 7 or 8 years we've learned where to beef these engines up for our added abuse. Believe me these 2-stroke 4-cylinders are more bullet-proof than the new 4-cylinder 4 strokes. I've talked to very reputable 4-stroke Apex engine builders and 36 psi of boost cracks blocks time and time again. With our new engine mods and turbo configiration we are truly looking at 45-50 psi of boost for 2011.
Anyways, my point to this is the Vmax-4 is probley the closest thing we will ever see for a modern muscle sled collector and the power-plant is still superior in all forms in regards to making horsepower. The market isn't there right now but that doesn't mean anything 10-years from now.

I agree 100%!!
Ya!!, Me too.
The last new sled I bought was for the wife in 86 (Phazer Deluxe) and it was $3400. In 92 a Vmax-4 was close to $9000. The prices on them today is unbelievable. I say if you don't HAVE to sell one, don't. Put that old iron in mothballs and save it for later. Right now a Vmax-4 has to be the best BANG for the buck in any form of motor sports when it comes to hotrods.

PS. I don't know if I've said it before but Marksan, your signature cracks me up.

THE VMAX 4 STILL HAS ONE PROBLEM, MOST THINK THEY WERE A BIG FAT SLOW BIG. I HAVE HEARD ALL THE COMMENTS, TWO HEAVY, MY SRX WILL KILL THOSE THINGS, WHEN DID YAMAHA BUILD A 4 CYLINDER , etc. COLLECTORS HAVE SHOW,IN INTREST IN THE LAST VMAX4 MADE IN 1997, BUT THE REST CAN BE BOUGHT VERY REASONABLE. I SOLD MY 1996 800 THAT I BOUGHT NEW FOR $2000. SLED HAD 1800 MILES. 3:16 (yammie tony)

I'm hanging on to mine. I have a load of parts and a garage to put it all in. They aren't going anywhere.

we are starting 2 see parts at yami dealers for these vmax4 obsolete no more parts 2 be had. we will see these sleds in like 10 years sooner or later have value, but for our parts invetory for those of us who ride or race them , buy up these sleds while they are cheap and keep for parts as that will be the only way most of us will be able 2 operate them.
