View Full Version : opened clutch, have questions
Last night I started to pull the max apart. Pulled the carb rack, and went at the clutches...every thing went really well, but I have some questions. Whats the stock helix? I found a 48/40 in it with a black spring, the primary I found the 89a-10 weights(no rivets) with a black and orange spring. I cleaned them up and then tossed them in the dishwasher and they look great. I was checking the manual when a freind stopped by and never got my head back in it....But what does a stock 92 run for clutching components. also I have most of 3:16's trail setup(clutch) but can't find a spring...anybody have a idea of a different one that mite work with a shim or 2?
also when I install the new helix what setting should I put the clutch at? (b-3) the clutch now will consist of 42/37 helix, 89A-10 weights with 13.9,17.2 rivets, still in the hunt for a spring(primary)
Thanks 3ft

DUDE, GET HAUCKS BLUE PRIMARY AND YOUR AT MY FAST TRAIL KIT FOR THE 750. TELL YA THE TRUTH, IT LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY ALREADY SET THAT SLED UP. AND YES SET SECONDARY AT B-3. ALSO IF YA RUN A HAUCK BLUE, REMEBER THE COVER HAS TO BE CHANGED TO SRX TALL COVER. !! 3:16 (tony)

thanks doug.....thats next on my things to pick up list...
48/40 is a lot of helix for the older style secondary. Is there the name of a manufacturer on the helix? Is it possible that you have an 800 Secondary on your sled?

I don't think it would work because you be moving the cover bearing out further.

Hey Yammiegod, have read your clutching & helix specs & need to get it clear in my head what I will need. Guess I need to have this pounded into my head so I get it right.
Will be putting on a set of PSI trail Quads that I acquired.
Ride in altitudes of 4200 to 7000', trail, powder & some hill climbing. This thing needs some good clutching upgrades to go along with the PSI's & an updated suspension later this spring. Rx-1 or M10 136" & 1.5" track.
Hate to screw it up.
94VmaxST, 750. w/5300 miles. Clutching currently looks stock in my opinion.
Primary has what appears to be a Yamaha spring with a silver-yellow color code??
No idea what the wieghts are yet. I know it engages low at 3,200rpm
( Its a Dog out of the hole!!! Have ridden it once after acquiring last March.)
Secondary has 39 degrees & 63 degrees written on it. Am guessing the 39 is the stock Yamaha helix, based on the different posts here.
So, does the Blue Hauck spring go on this one or???
And where to find the blue if needed. It's not on Hauck's site.
Then what angle helix if I need to change?
Thanks a bunch for helping out a "tech challenged" guy like me!! Rob

DUDE, KEEP IN MIND, WHEN YOUR RUNNING AT THAT ALTITUDES, CLUTCHING IS ALITTLE DEFFERNT BECAUSE OF LOSE OF AIR. ANYWAYS, RUN HAUCKS BLUE PRIMARY. YOU CAN CALL THEM AND ORDER THIS!! NOW AGAIN YOU WILL NEED A SRX COVER FOR PRIMARY CAP. ALSO RUN THE 42-37 HELIX AT B3 TWIST. NOW RUN THE 89A WEIGHTS BUT YOUR GONNA HAVE TO LIGHT,EN RIVETS UP AT THAT ALTITUDE.3:16 (tony)
