Can you explain the ABC 123 Settings on the secondary. I now understand the primary and how it works but not the secondary settings and how changing the spring holes settings work.

No one can explain this? Is it that hard to learn?
I can tell you that A3 - 33, B3 - 43, C3 - 53 degrees, these are the only settings that I have ever used.

BLY123, CHANGING THE LOCATION BETWEEN THE TWO ENDS OF THE SECONDARY SPRING FROM ABC-123 CHANGES THE TWIST ANGLE OR PRELOAD OF THAT SPRING. THE MORE INITIAL TWIST ANGLE THE MORE BACKSHIFT THE CLUTCH WILL PROVIDE TO PROVIDE QUICKER ACCELERATION AFTER LETTING OFF THE THROTTLE THEN GETTING BACK ON IT. JUST LIKE SHIFTING FROM 3RD GEAR DOWN TO SECOND GEAR ON A CAR OR TRUCK WITH A MANUAL TRANS. I HAVE A CHART AT HOME THAT TELLS THE TWIST ANGLES OF EACH POSITION RELATIONSHIP USED WITH STOCK CLUTCH SPRINGS THAT HAVE THE ENDS IN THE SAME SPOT. THE MINUTE YOU PUT A DIFFERNT SECONDARY SPRING IN THAT HAS THE END TABS AT A DIFFERANT RELATIONSHIP THAN THE STOCK SPRING YOU WILL END UP CHANGING THE INITIAL TWIST ANGLE[SPRING PRELOAD]. I WILL POST THE TWIST ANGLES ON THIS AS SOON AS I CAN. THIS IS USED TO TUNE END RUNNING RPM FOR DIFFERENT SNOW CONDITIONS WHICH PUTS DIFFERANT LOAD ON ENGINE AND CLUTCHES. TRAIL USE GENERALY REQUIRES MORE INITIAL TWIST ANGLE THAN LAKE RUNNING BEAUSE IF YOU HAVE TOO MUCH, THE SECONDARY WILL FIGHT AGAINST THE PRIMARY AND NOT ALLOW THE SLED TO BUILD TOP SPEED BECAUSE OF THIS BUILT IN BIND BETWEEN THE TWO CLUTCHES SO TO SPEEK. ALSO THE RATE OF THE SPRING HAS A HUGE EFFECT ON CLUTCH OPERATION AT DIFFERANT ENGINE RPM AND SLED SPEED. IT TAKES ALOT OF TUNING WITH DIFFERANT PARTS TO OBTAIN THE BEST OPERATING PERFORMANCE AT DIFFERANT TIMES AND RIDING/RACING CONDITIONS. I HOPE THIS SHEDS A LITTLE LIGHT ON THIS SUBJECT FOR YOU. So the tighter the twist the better the back shift? And thats good for trail use. I think I get it now. THANKS!!!
bly123,
The 92 Vmax-4's have terrible clutches and they require quite a bit of fine tuning to get them to work properly. I good upgrade for the 92 and 93 secondary clutches is the 94 teflon bushings. In 94 Yamaha upgraded the secondary clutches to teflon insert bushings to help with the clutch binding problems. Yamaha made a kit which included both secondary bushings, a secondary spring and rivets. The kit is priced dirt cheap. The part number is 90891-50125.
Ken
ken, Where can I order that kit? I remember you posting that before, I called the dealer and some kid said...Haahh. I don't see any thing like that in the computer. I would love to do this to my 92. I have the clutches laying in peices right now and would be the perect time to do it. Thanks
I purchased it from my dealer (in Canada) a couple of years ago, I guess it is possible that they discontinued it. You might try Port Yamaha or Rich to see if they can get it for you.
Here is the first page of the Canadian Service Bulletin for the upgrade, it might help you to.

I'm going to see if I can find this kit in my area. And I'll let you know.
I don't understand where the rivets go in this kit on the secondary.

Those must be for the primary.

I have Yamigods setup in my primary now and MAN it really rocks. I had it out just last Sunday for the first time. What a difference. I would say that in a race between my 92 750 with the 800 pipes and Boysen reeds with Yamigod's Clutch setup I could easaly keep up with my 03 Arctic cat 900 No problem.
