Hey guys, just thought I would share a story that happened at work Thursday morning.
I am sure you had that morning you wake up and everything seems to go wrong. Well, that was me Thursday morning before work. They were calling for 8-10 inches of snow Friday and of course I don't have my hood and panels back, I got up late, left my phone at home, forgot my VMax-4 hat (which has been awesome in the cold) and forgot my lunch, got to the store and had all my lunch on the counter and the guy said they didn't have any bags, this made me about blow but I held it in.
Well the guys I work with are like family and we have 1 part time guy who works 2 days a week and then goes to college. He has helped us the last 3 summers too. We were having a great time even though it was a wind chill of around 20 degrees and in an instant it all changed.
About 9:00 am Pat (part time one) had a sheet of OSB and walked past me and the next thing I heard was the sheet falling next te me and I heard him moaning on the next floor, below me. I knew right away this kid was hurt. He has been training the last 4 years at a SEALS camp and he is really a tough one. I looked in the opening and I saw him in the basement with the most blood I have seen for a long time. He wasn't paying attention and backed right off the plywood, we were putting down and fell directly on the right side of his face. I have never saw someones face look the way his did and that was in a matter of 1 minute. I would of never of known who he was, if I didn't see him do this. He broke both eye sockets, broke his nose, fractured sinus cavity, fractured cheek bone and when his teeth are closed together they do not line up at all.
I really feel bad bitching about the "little" things that had me so wound up that morning after this happened. I truely have learned a lesson after this. Pat, is at home but has to go through more CAT scans Monday if the swelling goes down. He may require face surgery and I pray to God, he doesn't have any other problems.

I'll be thinking of your friend. I fell two stories when a scaffold colapsed under me and landed on rocks with my brother hanging on for life above me. I got lucky and didn't hit my head on any of the rocks but I still remember moaning from the pain and knowing I was seriously hurt. Pat is young and will heal much better than you or I would. We will be praying for him...Blue

hopefully he heals up good and gets right back into it. I am also a builder, and have seen lots of accidents as well as foolish mistakes that have hurt people pretty bad, including myself a couple times. Its a dangerous buisiness to be in.

Doug - I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Some people have jobs where there isn't much chance of getting hurt, and some of us have jobs where there is always the danger of something going wrong. You try not to think about it, but you know that the chance of getting hurt is always there. I've had accidents happen to me, and seen others get hurt and my first response is always "I'm hoping this is just a dream", but you know it's not. Like you said, it can happen in an instant, and it changes your perspective on all of the "little things" that annoy us.

Here is his update - He went for a CAT scan Monday and he has to have surgery. They have to go through the inside of his upper mouth. The cheek bone is so badly broke, they have to push it back and hopefully he will be able to line his teeth up. The bone in his nose pushed back through his sinus cavity and they have to push that back out. He is in very good spirits with all that has happened to him.
Thanks for all the kind words. I did tell him, I posted this on a forum and told him what you all said. He told me to tell you thanks and that there must be some great people on the forum. He honestly believes if it wasn't for so many people praying for him, things would be alot worse then they are.

Well,Pat went into out patient surgery, yesterday. They worked on him about 4 hours and things didn't turn out to great. He had to be admitted into a hospital and will be there at least to Thursday. They pushed his cheek bone back into place but it didn't stay there the 3 times they tried, so they had to wire his jaw shut. He will have to drink through a straw for 2-3 weeks. They tried to push the nose bone back through his sinus cavity but it would not stay in place, so they had to put a metal plate where it went through, to keep it there.
I just wanted to say thanks again for the prayers for him. I know he is young, tough and will heal up in great shape.
