Lisa and I just picked this up today. The guy that had it, told us it was his dads and he past away, awhile ago. It was sitting inside since he bought it, so it is in real good shape. The guy had some great stories about the sled and riding with his dad, it was pretty neat to hear the stories behind the sled.
It is a 1970 Evinrude Skeeter 2005 model with electric start, reverse and a 21'' track. It even came with an original cover, service manual and brochure. Th esled only has 268 miles on it.

Dean,
Yes, it would be nice to have a bigger garage but I have to make this one work. I can still get about 3 more old sleds in there, then it will be full! I have at least one more I am getting in the middle of the week, a 72 Arctic Cat Cheetah in great shape besides the seat and maybe a 71 Mercury Lighting.

By the way, that is pretty cool how you have the V going across the bottom!!!!

Wow that Evinrude Skeeter looks to be in great shape Doug. Have you started that baby up yet?

RDL,
Yes, it starts right up but it starts to miss and pop. It is either a crank case gasket or the carb. I really don't think it is a big deal but at least it will start with the electric start, the reverse works great and everything else is good to go! I started to clean up the sled tonight and this sled is going to look, close to new!!!
The only thing I know of that the guy changed a little is shocks on the original skis and the dad couldn't stand the exhaust fumes, so he extended the exhaust pipes back both sides under the machine, which is very easy to take off. It is hard to see but in the second picture you can see the one side going back to the very back. It does have a clamp that he drilled two holes in the rails but that isn't a big thing to me.

I like to see old sleds that have not been beat over the years. I like like it shows now seat and cab look mint. You got to post photos when you are done cleaning it all up. Also add some of the motor I'd like to see it. Do you know what's the motor displacement is on it??

Looks like a great find. I like the registration number: 0003 There were probably only 3 sleds in that county when it was registered!:D :D Ahh yes, the old 21" track. Brings back memories. Wasn't it Evinrude that used to run the exhaust through the handlebars to keep your hands warm? I'm telling you Doug, if you keep posting all of your showroom condition old sleds, I might just have to start a collection of my own!

Shark,
I didn't even take a look at the registration number! I am not sure about running the exhaust up through the handlebars but I will find out.
I know I can help you find some old sleds but getting them there would take some time!! I don't want to push my luck with Lisa, this close till Christmas but the other ones I mentioned are also in great shape and I would like to get them. The Mercury is in awesome shape, the older man rode it up till last year and I took from him, it wears him out on a trail. The Arctic Cat is almost free. One more next week to look at, it is a 73 Massey Ferguson and I am done.
After some clean up I will post other pictures and take these pics off. The guy who had it wants me to email him pictures of the sled as I clean it up. The man really looked upset to see it go but he said it would of just sat in his pole barn and somethng would happen to it.

Man does that machine bring back some memories. The first family sled we had was a 1968 OMC Snowcruiser. It looked identical to your outside except for hood color and yours has a different front bumper and an extra rear bar. Mine only had one at the back. It was like your narrower one that flips down. In case you didn't know, that one will flip down under your rear end to hold the track off the ground like modern track stands. Only problem is that with ice and snow on these units, it takes two men and a small boy to lift the rear end up. Mine had the 21" full cleat track. Under the hood looks identical, from the belt drive electric start to the carb position to the open chain chaincase. Mine had a line draining excess oil from the engine to drip on the chain to loob things up. I still have one of those transmissions in the garage. My engine was smaller though. It was a 206?cc with a whopping 16 hp. 30 mph down hill with a tailwind. My mufflers ran under the tunnel over the track and unloaded just infront of the snowflap. I think this was the reason there was so much ice and stuff at the back end. Mine also had a knob just above the reverse that was called a cruise-o-matic. It did two things. When you pulled it out, it blocked the clutch in neutral so you could rev it up without having the sled move as well as it retarded the timing and opened up compression releases to make it easier to start. These were high compression engines that took good fuel to run right. The Cruise-o-matic was a start and warm up feature. The clutch won't go back to regular position unless the engine is at an idle.Have fun with it.
