View Full Version : Clutch Engagment..What RPM
The sled cam with a aftermarket HPI clutch, It doesnt engage until almost 5000 - 5500 rpm, What do most of you guys run for clutch setups, I know some may be secret, but It spins the track so much at take off it really doesnt hook up that well, It has 130 studs in it. The other question is it pulls hard all the way too about 90 or so but then it fells like ti just flattens out...What is the top speed for a relativly stock VMAX4 750.
Thanks

Mine spins the track extremely bad until roughly 60-70mph, it engages just at 5000rpm. I am not sure what stock is for the 800 but thats where mine kicks in. I am not sure how much more top end the 800 has but mine is all stock except the silencer and maybe a clutch(?). I have had it indicated 110-120 on the speedo going across the frozen lake. It was pretty rough though so it's hard to tell exactly where the needle is. I took a few pics of the speedo but most are extremely blurry, except one where it clearly shows 100mph. I'd think with the power to weight ratio it is easily possible to bury the speedo in either a 750 or 800 given a proper running sled and smooth surface.

Stock engagement is around 3600 rpm, the sled should be faster than 90 mph. What is your shift RPM? Did you check your belt width, clutch centers and offset?
With 130 studs you risk damaging your track, I run 192.

I put a brand new belt on last night and it made a noticable difference, I the offset looks to be in spec, I dont know how to find where the shift point is. I am going to put more studs in. see if that helps, I found the side panel has a little opening in it and it lets snow in where its hitting the clutch and belt, maybe causing it to slip??? the panle attatches correctly but i have to find someway to seal it better..
