Are you talking about pulling the primary? If so you need a yamaha puller.

Yes I am talking about pulling the primary clutch, last year there was a lot of talk about pulling the clutch's without using a puller, just tipping the sled on its side, filling the bolt hole with oil and using a regular bolt to just compress the oil till the clutch popped off, and seeing where my buddy with the clutch puller is away for the next two weeks I figured I would just give the bolt trick a try...but cant seem to find the right size?..anybody here remember the talk about this method? and know what size bolt it is??.....Mike

You still need a puller the grease trick just makes the job easier.

you will need a bolt with 18mm threads
By the time you spend the money it would cost for such a large diametor bolt, and lenght, you`d be better off just buying a clutch puller I would think. I got mine for $28 I think it was. also, as said above about using grease, I would use it rather than oil, because once the clutch comes loose, that oil is going to spill out everywhere, where as the grease, should stay put until you get the clutch off and out, then you can just spray the grease out of the clutch using starter fluid or something like it that will break the grease down. Now if you do go with a regular clutch puller, be sure to use some anti seize on the threads.

Thanks Blue Streak...I read quite a few posts on using a bolt instead of a puller either last winter or the winter before , and tryed it on an old arctic cat I have and it worked awesume!! the bolt just compressed the oil in till the clutch just popped off!!
AL.P..I also remember talk about whether to use oil or grease..I guess it just depends on how much of a mess you want to clean up! I remeber someone saying that they used grease so they didnt have to tip the machine on its side.....
I just counted the threads on my puller, and there are 18 threads per inch. if that helps. AL P
