96 800 Primary w/short cover?

I don't want to start anything but I see there is conflicting info in many posts here in regard to the 'correct' cover on 800 primarys...short/tall??

Well, I was preparing to install the www spring tonight and to my dismay, I had the short cover/spring. I used the cover from my '01 SXR (8DF I believe) as it had a taller spring and figured it would work. Now engages around 4200. I may put some shims in to raise it a bit if neccessary though.

Will I be OK using this cover from the SXR?

Use the 8DF and shim it. It will be fine.

WHEN YOU USE ANY '' TALL '' COVER SPRINGS THAT ARE FOR 98 YAMAHA PRIMARY AND AFTER USE THE TALL (8df) COVER. ADD A SHIM TO FINE TUNE ENGAGEMENT. 3:16 (YAMMIE TONY)
