Here is my faithful pit crew. They were not allowed to drive anything motorized, so I let them take turns being pulled to the staging area.

Here is my first burnout. It was easier than I thought it would be and I got a little carried away...but it was FUN!!!!!:beathead:

A couple of pics out of the gate.

This was my maiden voyage on the tar and I had no baseline for clutching. It needs ALOT of work, but it still ran 10.67 at 114. Best 60 foot time was 1.47. Tach didn't work after the first run, but I did see it go from 10,000 down to 8200. Clutching SUCKED!! All I did was throw some weights and spring in it and a secondary with a cam in it. I will have to do some more tuning on a nearby blacktop road to get the revs correct. In my first round of eliminations, I hit an .08 light and then broke out by almost 2 tenths. For some reason, it decided not to pull the motor down as far and ran faster. I had a blast and will be more prepared next time. I expect low 10's or maybe dip into the high 9's.
BTW: Wearing leathers on a sunny, 86 degree day is not highly recommended. The track surface was measured at 134 degrees.

Nice burn out!!! Get your clutching worked out and you will be surprized how low you can go with that sled..

Good pics, looked like a fun day, I'm sure your kids had fun... Leathers on a hot South Dakota day, LOL, next you'll be Armor All-ing those things up to slip thru the air better! Where is this track at?

I will have to give credit to my wife for the pictures. It was a beautiful sunny day for great pics. I may have one or two of them blown up to poster size to put in the "Man Cave".

The track was in Marion, SD. About 25 miles SW of Sioux Falls.

I don't know how many more times I am going to run, but I will definitely be going back with the sled running better and me driving better. I did redlight once- but barely- .0058.

I've got a question for you guys that have run asphalt before...
What makes the front of the sled hop up and down? Is it the track breaking loose and biting, or is it the track "balling up" in front of the rails? Maybe suspension set wrong?
I have looked at my pics closely and it does not appear that the track is too loose. It did it 2 out of 4 passes. I think the skid worked pretty well, but I thought maybe I would shorten the limiter even more for less ski lift. Any input is appreciated.

MIKE, PROBLEM AT FRONT OF YOUR SUSPENSION. YOU NEED TO RUN SPRINGS OR LIMITERS, WHATEVER YOU HAVE ON THAT SKID AS TIGHT AS POSSIBLE. THAT WILL CURE IT. 3:16 (yammie tony)

Mike we had the same thing happen first time out.. What we thought was a tight track turned out to be quite loose. We had to run the track much tighter than I would have expected to eliminate that exact problem.. Any rippling of the track going under the rails turns into hopping as the wheels go over the track. Everything has to run super smooth..

I checked the track tension yesterday and it isn't much tighter than what you would run a normal track. I will tighten it and maybe give it another shot. I set the front arm to its shortest position as well. I would love to see this thing be in the 1.3's for 60 ft times. That's the best part of the run...:4fzfpi:
Jabber-
Parts have been shipped. They should be there next thursday. I have a tracking # if you would like it.
