i have a problem i purchased a 93 from a kid locally he told me it was a 97 since i dont know much about snowmobiles i believed him. however it turns out its a 93. i think it has the proaction upgrade though. when i got it if you pushed down on the rear suspension it sprung back up right away. i had a buddy install a track for me. i thought the suspension was in wrong so i used measurements from this site to reinstall when it went back together there is no suspension travel at all. i put it back to where it was originally and still no travel. i think it has to do with the center mount. does any body have any ideas.

I'm sure if you could post some pics of the skid and how it is installed someone on here will be able to tell you whats wrong....
a picture tells a thousand words....

Welcome to the site! :schild27::schild27::schild27:

First of all, we need to know if your sled really does have a ProAction, or something else. Like the other guys said, we like to look at pictures of other guy's sleds and it really does help us to help you. It doesn't make much sense that the skid worked before the track replacement, but doesn't work now. Sounds like maybe something happened during the swap. If you can't post pictures (because you're a new member), email them to me at mgrant1070@yahoo.com and I'll post them for you.

i appreciate all of the responses. I havent posted any pics because the sled is at my buddies and i spend most of my time when over there scratching my head and cussing at my sled. I have spent most of the day today online looking at pictures and researching. I am about 90 percent sure the suspension is actually out of a 96 600xt. However i do not know what the mounting measurements should be if anyone knows it would be appreciated. i will try to get over there tomorrow and get some pictures im sure someone can help. Also the only change that was made during the track swap was i loosened the front spring. could this cause a problem? Thanks again for all the responses.

Here are pictures that were emailed to me. It doesn't look like the ProAction I've got in my sled.

Looks like the idler wheels on the front mounting shaft for the rear shock are upside down. They should be pointing up to guide the track. And why does it look like the front spring is so far away from the top adjustment nut?

It looks like there is a couple of hoist arms stuck in the skidframe...JK! Ya, it looks like there is something not quite right with the small idlers.

I agree!! the wheels should be pointed up for the track to ride on.....

but will admit i am going to have to look at a pro-action to see why that would cause it not to work at all..... :2dontknow

Bubba....

It looks like it is 96 and later XT style rear suspension. The front arm was probably bolted in the original 93 holes and it has the whole suspension geometry messed up. The front arm appears to be at a much steeper angle to me. Jeff Wurl

Thanks for responses. to answer the questions I am still playing with this thing and the front wheels aren't mounted yet. Would thst cause a problem? The front arm has been moved forward and there are hoist arms in it, ha ha. If you notice those transfer rods are almos completely bottomed out. I wonder if that's the problem or how to adjust even. All your help is very appreciated. Thanks again

I would take it back out and get that arm flipped back over. If I remember correctly, the shock should be on the top of the arm. You may be able to just flip it back and then re-install the skid properly.

Here is the only pic I can find on my laptop, when installing an XT style skid all new holes must be drilled.
Every hole will be forward of the original mounting locations.

SUCCESS!! Thanks to you all you are a great bunch. Tonight loosened the front shock and tightened the front limiters. worked like a charm. Now all i need is snow!!! All of your help is greatly appreciated.

'96XT long travel in my '92. There are no leverage choices neither fore or aft. Unlike the '97.

I designed this template years ago, 1997 A.D. I believe, damn it's turned yellow... The '97 tunnel is unique as it is punched with all suspension hole locations from '92 to '97. The rear reflector location is exactly the same all years too. Locating this template from '92-96 front suspension hole and rear reflector location you will be able to automatic punch exact locations of and for the '97 Vmax-4 and beyond.*+^%&*%. rear-04958uporkjgvp42oi5utsuspension... ha.

Rear arm location is '97 specific. Not the same as the '96XT. Notice the dual leverage location options.

Removing and installing or and fabricating and installing support steel underside of tunnel is required. That '92 of mine has a cracking tunnel, no steel support, I'll get to it........yea right...........

I'll bring this template to peaches and I suppose more could be made. Tip-Up-Town U.S.A.
